Fact - The first invaders of England were the Celts, who began crossing the English Channel around 500 BC.  The Celts, a warlike people, were divided into various tribes.  The earliest invading tribe, the Gaels, settled in the western and northern areas of Great Britain.  The second wave of Celtic invaders, the Britons, occupied most of what is now England and Wales.
