Roman Disk Pendant
This beautiful reproduction pendent is a copy of a Roman design dating from circa late 4th to 3rd centuries B.C. The original pendent was made from gold with a cabochon garnet centrally set within a shield-like convexity.
A highly skilled craftsman would have created the disk with the shield-like shape and then added the delicate filigree rope work and other filigree patterns surrounding the centre stone. A simple bezel type setting held the garnet in place.
Pendant measures 4cm on a 52cm chain.
