St. Edward Heraldic Crown Pin (JW)
During the Medieval period Knights in armour would decorate their shields with heraldic designs. These would be used to identify each Knight either on the battlefield of during tournament. Some of the most popular heraldic designs featured animals and mythical beasts, the flour-de-lis, crowns and flowers.
Crown designs were often associated with Royalty and the flour-de-lis was used as the world emblem of France.
